Saag Pea soup (green peas) is super tasty and also healthy which does not hurt.
Dal Bukhara (lentils) is creamy and delicious.
Aloo Gobi Matar (cauliflower dish) was okay.

A little spicy and oily food but was delicious. Tried the vegetarian Potatoes and Eggplant dish. Phoolkas as breads were good too.

Only one of the two things I ordered was actually delivered.
Posted 2 years ago by Lisa K.
The food is fantastic, especially the rasmalai, but the portions were inconsistent. The last 4 times I ordered rasmalai, I got 3 in a $6.00 order. Fine. But today, I ordered and received 2 in both of the 2 orders I ordered. That's 4 rasmalai for $13.00 plus tip. Ridiculous. Fantastic food, but the delivery and portion consistency leaves a bit to be desired.

The best Indian in the city.

Had high expectations after walking by the restaurant a few times. The chicken tikka masala was dry and the sauce was uninspiring. Also ordered Hakka noodles which were also very ordinary. The menu looked exciting but it did not taste great. I will not be ordering again.

Love this place. Would (and almost do) order from them every night of the week.
Posted 2 years ago by Matt C.
The lollipop chicken was horrid - boiled chicken with sweet sauce, lacked any flavor whatsoever. My recommendation would be to avoid at all costs or be expect to be disappointed. The fish was okay but nothing to write home about. Have mediocre to low expectations when ordering from here!

food is good but they get got my order wrong.

Best Indian place we've found downtown with reasonable prices and delivery time. The food is great and not steep in oil. Order the Samosa Chaat & Chicken Tikka Masala on the regular.
Posted 3 years ago by linden s.
Everything tasted like it was made from frozen ingredients. Will not be re-ordering from here again.
Posted 3 years ago by Amy B.
The best indian I've had delivered downtown all year. I have tried the majority of places and always find myself disappointed!
We had the Goan fish curry which was very good! Fish cooked perfect and the right amount of spice.
We also had the samosa chaat, not my favorite app, but only by my preference...it was still great!
Garlic Naan was also fantastic.
My only complaint is that the food arrived cold....it's hard to really enjoy a meal you just paid good money for when you have to microwave it first.
Posted 3 years ago by Philip A.
Disappointing today - usually get the staff curry which is full of chicken and whole dried chilies - but today it's watery and no chili! ... Rice is over-cooked too. Has ownership changed?
Posted 3 years ago by Debra J.
I usually don't bother with reviews, but the dosa was pretty impressive, the service was extremly fast. All in all a very good experience.
Posted 3 years ago by Mushir S.
Food is decent, but overpriced. They also only delivered 1/2 of our order. Shame that there is not a better Indian delivery option downtown.
Posted 3 years ago by Eric B.
One of the worst Indian food I have ever eaten. Both their North and South Indian food suck. It's tasteless and grossly overpriced for the quantity you get. Well, maybe they are being merciful with the quantity because it tastes so bad. I have eaten Indian food all my life and this is just garbage.
Posted 3 years ago by Ravi B.
This is my go-to place for my dosa cravings, but stick to the South Indian dishes. The dosas are great, as are the chutneys, idli etc. Avoid the North Indian dishes--the palak paneer is swimming in oil (yuck), I suspect the curries too--breads are OK, but what are you going to eat them with? I like the salty lassi but found the sweet one too sweet. The kulfi was delicious. Paysam had no flavor, kheer was too sweet. Tried-and-true order: masala dosa, salty lassi, mango kulfi, masala chai (it's not on the menu, but they'll make it for you if you ask, and you should!). You won't be disappointed. Delivery is fast.

The lunch combos are a great deal. Lots of food, nice variety, very reasonable. I got a shrimp curry combo and the shrimp were a bit overcooked (thus chewy) but good flavour. Naan is delish. I also got chicken tandoori which was even more expensive than the entire combo deal and was a super small portion, decent tasting. Didn't feel it was worth it, however.

Perfect chicken tikka masala, and their delivery times have much improved recently (broke up with them in the past because they were so slow). Very good food, great chef.

Great food, especially the samosa chaat. I've ordered from here often, and the delivery has thus far always been fast and courteous. Keep up the good work, Salaam Bombay!!
Posted 3 years ago by Christine L.
Called for the paneer chili and it was awful -- a bunch of chewy paneer pieces floating in oil with some green peppers strewn around. It was inedible. The appetizer arrived cold and seemed to reheated from a frozen packet.

Delicious kachori! Totally authentic! I don't care if it was out of a bag ...
Posted 3 years ago by adolfo c.
Tasty food, but Not a clean kitchen. I ordered a staff curry and got, well lets just say chicken was not the only meat inside. Eat at your own risk...

Quick delivery. chicken tikka and onion bhajis are great!

really good fast indian! The mimosas are the best anywhere!
Restaurant is very clean which is an A in my book!

I wish there was a negative star. Hands down the worst Indian food I have ever had. I am Indian and know the difference between good, decent and bad. This is by far BAD. I got the chicken 65 and have had this dish in many restaurants. What I received today was chicken nuggets drenched in some nasty sauce. DO NOT order from here! I just wasted over 15 dollars for a disgusting lunch.
Posted 3 years ago by Sisil J.
Spent just over $50 for 2 chicken dishes and accompanying sides. One of the two dishes was delivered incorrectly; it was supposed to be prepared in a sauce but was instead delivered as dry pieces of chicken. Thanks for short changing me guys. Enjoy your one star!

I asked for my Malai Kofta spicy --- what arrived tasted like a bottle of Tabasco sauce had been poured in.
Posted 3 years ago by Oli A.
All good, and I've been thru the menu. the Naan breads are fantastic! prepare for a little wait, but well worth it.
Posted 3 years ago by thom l.
I order from here at least once a week as a standby Seamless dinner. Delivery is always fast, the delivery staff is great, and the food is consistent. I know it can be oily sometimes and it isn't "fancy Indian" like Tamarind, but at the very least it's leagues above Baluchi's in taste and quality.

We've only done take-out from SB, & always L O V E our meal!...and find the service helpful and kind. (I do not understand the bad reviews at all.) We order so often and have only had a couple mistakes along the way, in which they make up for as expected. Don't even need to say that last part- just trying to shed some light on bad reviews. SB is an excellent restaurant! Delish!

Delivery staff is extremely rude. Food quality is good but they do tend to mess up the order at times.
Posted 4 years ago by Parshva S.
The food tasted terrible. The briyani was too oily and tasteless and the fritters were not crispy at all. Threw away all of it.
Posted 4 years ago by Monika B.
I've never had a bad meal from Salaam Bombay. Sometimes, the portions can be small in terms of the meat to curry ratio, but overall this is very good Indian food, which I have been trying to find for years.
Posted 4 years ago by divya g.
DO NOT ORDER FROM SALAAM BOMBAY! There is better food and better service available at other restaurants. After waiting twice as long as promised for the food, management was rude and unapologetic and only offered a discount on a future order that will never ever take place.

vegetable tandoori was terrible, the vegetable were mushi and had no flavor, the curry was ok but nothing to exciting. There has to be better in the neighborhood

ordered a chicken biryani dish and both times it came with the package open and food spilled all over inside the bag. the second time, the delivery guy ran away! he knew he spilled my food so he gave me the bag and legit took off running down the hall! i called the restaurant for a refund and they said they couldn't and i was charged the full amount. they offered to send me another one. great thanks guys, now i can wait 2 hours for a dish and still pay full price, you just lost a customer for life. its called customer service, learn it asap

It is a bit inconsistent, but if you ask for the food to be spicier, it's generally very good. I would rate the aloo baingan, aloo gobi matar, malai kofta, and garlic naan a little bit higher - perhaps 4.5 stars. Overall, I thought all of the food was fresh, and if they could add a bit more complexity with additional spices and chili, this place could be phenomenal. As I said, there are some 4.5 star dishes and when I only order those, I love to order here. Although I was really excited when I saw dhokla on the menu, I was highly disappointed. Their dhokla is way too dense and lacking any sort of flavor direction - particularly on the chili front. I wasn't fond of the vegetable manchurian either. Just beware that the shrinkand has no saffron and no nuts. It was literally sweetened yogurt and a big disappointment.

Brought the wrong food the first time. Not happy to resend. Worst lamb I've ever had. So many better places in the area that are cheaper as well.

Ordered the Gujarati thali and some appetizers. Samosas are very good, but the thali seems like reheated buffet fare for the most part for a $22 dish. Delivery was very slow and they forgot items that come with the dish. When we called to notify them, the person on the phone told us it did not come with forgotten item (which was clearly included in the menu description on seamless). Customer service is sub-par...took them about an hour and 40 minutes to get the order delivered right.

Delivery took forever. When I called to check on it, I sat on hold and then the guy was short with me. When the food finally arrived, some of it was cold.

Excellent food! Coming from London where the Indian food is amazing, we find that it's hard to find good Indian in the city. That being said, we think that Salaam Bombay is exceptional!

Food better than your average Indian. Got my order a bit wrong, but what they sent was good, anyway.

Food was very very greasy, amount of food and quality wasn't worth it for the amount of money I spent.
Posted 5 years ago by Danielle K.
BEST...Indian...food...ever. Delivery did take 50 min, but it was worth it. All white meat Chicken Tikka Masala, just the right amount of spice (and I like spice). Really good rice. I ordered the whole wheat naan which wasn't as good as normal naan, but it's probably the whole wheat aspect. This is my new go-to Indian place.
Posted 5 years ago by Heidi B.
Oder took over two hours to come, I will never order again from this place
Posted 5 years ago by William G.
Delivery was fast and the food was delicious. Well packaged, lots of good sauces. Naan bread was very good, they do excellent dosas and curries. I would highly recommend this place as one of the best Indian restaurants in Tribeca.
Posted 5 years ago by Joanne A.
Good quality, non greasy indian food. Biryani is a bit dry. And Vindaloo is too spicy
Posted 5 years ago by Pankaj V.
The Aloo Paratha is one of my favorites, especially with a bit of the yogurt sauce. I also enjoy the Palak Paneer which is a dish of home made cheese cubes in freshly ground spinach - sounds weird but tastes good - i use it as kind of a sauce on the rice. Same with the Aloo Gobi Matar - I spoon that over the rice. Great vegetarian selection.

Best chicken tikka masala in town. Hands down. And I've tried a lot of places. The Palak Paneer is also very good, as is their garlic naan.
Posted 6 years ago by Megan W.
Delicious food. I ordered a Chicken Dosa of some sort, which was fantastic. The Tikka Masala was very good as well. After going through some of the other choices on Seamless, Salaam Bombay will be our go-to for Indian delivery in the neighborhood.

Worst service ever! Food was really late. Took over an hour to deliver food which should hvae taken them max 30 minutes since they are right down the street.
Posted 6 years ago by Johny P.
I always order from here for Indian - sometimes it take a little more than the allotted time which is the only reason it doesn't get 5.
Posted 6 years ago by danielle v.
Palak Paneer is pretty awesome. naan is good though not as consistent as it could be. The chicken dishes seem to be better than the lamb, but i think the chicken tikka and the chicken tikka masala are both excellent.
Posted 6 years ago by Colin M.
waaaaay overpriced for mediocre food. wont be getting them again.
Posted 6 years ago by sean m.
Consistently high quality and not greasy, like some other Indian places we've tried.
Posted 6 years ago by David E.
The food was horrible. I have never rated a restaurant before, but I am so disappointed in what was passed off as food that I had to say something.
If you have a cold and can't tast a thing, the food will keep you from being hungry. But if you want something that tastes like Indian food try a different restaurant.

Rava Masala was so salty it was inedible.

Posted 7 years ago by Ergun E.
Amazing food! The chicken tikka masala was just perfect, rich and creamy sauce with just the right kick, also amazing naan bread. I was surprised to see rice offered with my dish, since it is usually an add-on type of side. In the future I guess I will ask them to not send it since it went to waste.

the lamb was ridiculous, especially in the yogurt sauce... the pickles were weird though... I guess I just never saw pickles prepared that way. Pungent.

My fiance's family is Indian, so we eat a lot of Indian at home as well as from various Indian restaurants. We avidly try new restaurants around NYC and New Jersey and this is easily our favorite Indian restaurant. Their Makhani gravy is the most buttery and succulent and the chicken xacuti (spelling?) is unique and delicious!

It's the 3rd time we ordered from this place and it's usually good. But tonight, the chicken was terrible!
Posted 7 years ago by Benoit B.
My food was expected to arrive at 1pm and got it at 1:45pm. Everytime I called the restaurant, they would put me on hold and I would have to call again. After getting someone on the phone, I was told it'll be there "any minute". I understand that sometimes things happen, but the restaurant should have the courtsey to call and say that they are delayed.

The best indian food in the area hands down. I haven't written a review here before, but the food here was delicious. I never thought I could get a good Masala Dosa outside of India, but the theirs is superb. It's traditional food and new age styles, fresh ingredients, and easy on the wallet. Trust me, if you want good Indian food, this is the place.

Ordered the other day. The CTM was awesome...not a light dish, but very tasty. I ordered a diet coke and they delivered a regular coke...kinda annoying. But the food was great overall.

Very very oily -- its dripping with oil,, I bought chicken briyani and the order was delivered promptly and packed neatly . But the fud was oily and the chicken pieces were boneless chicken cut into huge pieces but when cut open it looks pink and then u doubt if they cooked it enough.. I would prefer the chicken to be tender and falling apart stage when in briyani. Even though the fud was extremely oily and the chicken bland the only plus point was that the rice was seasoned and had flavor , But with that much oil I doubt that the flavor was worth consuming this much oil, and I consumed majority of it cuz unfortunately I was hungry,, now if i have an heart attack today i blame salaam bombay for it :)
